Below is a list of folk-related sites you may find of interest. If you have any suggestions for sites to add to this list, you can submit them by email or through the form on our mail page. |
| Musi-Cal - Want
to know where your favorite artist is playing, or who's playing at your favorite place or
in your area? This is the spot to find out. Musi-Cal
is a comprehensive database where you can search using the above-mentioned criteria. Folk Alliance - This is a national organization dedicated to the promotion of folk music and dance. Folk Alliance offers an online newsletter and has an extensive list of links to organizations, venues, resources, and artists. Dirty Linen - This site is an online version of the national folk music magazine. You can read selected articles or CD and concert reviews from the current issue, or take a look at past issues. Like Musi-cal, Dirty Linen offers an excellent "gig guide", searchable by performer, venue or region. If you like what you see here, you can subscribe to the print version of the magazine right at their website. The Mudcat Cafe - Can't remember all the words to that favorite song? This online folk and blues magazine has a colossal database of song lyrics; you've gotta see it to believe it! You can also use RealAudio to listen to music while you wander through the site. If you become a member, there are forums available where you can join in discussions with like-minded folks. The Mudcat Cafe will soon be adding a concert listing and an online music store. Folkmusic.org - Formerly Folkpage at Ohio State, this site is full of interesting and useful information. Folkmusic.org offers news, articles, and lots of listings, including online radio stations. Folkweb - An online CD store for acoustic music. You can search their offerings by artist, music category, or label. The great feature of Folkweb is that you can listen to two minute clips of any of the artists using either Shockwave or RealAudio. There's also a more extensive view of a featured performer. Acoustic Cafe - Acoustic Cafe is a weekly syndicated radio show. At their website, you can find a list of radio stations throughout the country that carry the program. If you find that it's not available in your area, you can listen to segments of selected shows on demand with RealAudio. WOMR - We can't talk about music on the radio without mentioning our good friends at WOMR, OuterMost community Radio in Provincetown. The station is staffed by volunteer DJ's, so you know they're not just in it for the money, but for the love of the music; and the station offers a wide variety, including several folk programs that feature many of the artists who perform at First Encounter. There really is "something for everyone" here. Hop, jitterbug, shuffle, two-step, boogie, or even march (whatever your musical preference) on over to their website and check out the schedule. WOMR broadcasts to the Cape and the South Shore at 92.1 FM. WKSU - This is another great site to make use of RealAudio. WKSU broadcasts folk music live on the weekends, and offers on-demand listening of recent programs. Each available show is accompanied by a complete playlist, so you can see what you're gonna get. This site is definitely worth checking out! RealAudio - You'll find many sites that employ this excellent utility. RealAudio will not only allow you to listen to music, but also other radio programs found on the internet, such as NPR. You can also find news, weather, sports, etc. Some of these also include video, although the image may be reminiscent of trying to tune in a TV station with tinfoil on your rabbit ears! RealAudio is a free download; and it's quick and easy. You can decide to download it anytime; most sites that are served by it have a link to get you there. |
